About Mary Koch . . .

Mary Koch, veteran newspaper editor, for 14 years shared with readers the joy, frustration, humor and pain in her life as full-time caregiver for her husband, John E. Andrist,  in her weekly newspaper column, "Journal of Healing," With John's death on Sept. 25, 2007, she is posting weekly essays about her experiences as her life takes a new turn.

Mary, 63, was in the newspaper business for more than 30 years. She was an Associated Press editor before she joined her husband in editing and publishing the Omak, Washington, Chronicle. They sold the newspaper in 1996. She continues to work as a free-lance writer and editor..
